Volunteer: Email Marketing Manager

GreatNonprofits ( is the leading website for donors and volunteers to find local nonprofits. More than 20 million people use the website to make donations and contribute their talents and time. 


Over time, GreatNonprofits has collaborated with several noteworthy organizations such as The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Fidelity Charitable, and Guidestar. GreatNonprofits has received media coverage in the Economist, Huffington Post, and Wall Street Journal. It is led by a seasoned nonprofit executive, Perla Ni, founder and former publisher of the Stanford Social Innovation Review.


GreatNonprofits’ Email Marketing Manager is responsible for the growth and engagement of the large base of donors, volunteers, and nonprofits on the GreatNonprofits website. 


We are seeking someone who is passionate about email marketing and mining data for insights. This is the perfect fit for someone who is highly motivated and interested in using their skills for social good.

Our goal is to use email intelligently to grow:


  1. Donations to nonprofits

  2. Nonprofits registered on GreatNonprofits


  • Analyze current email marketing campaigns and make recommendations and improvements

  • Partner with marketing and engineering teams to develop an email marketing strategy, roadmap and implementation plan for GreatNonprofits

  • Develop, write, and test creative copy to spark generosity and raise awareness about nonprofit causes. 

  • Oversee marketing email process from conception through deployment.

  • Manage trigger email campaigns throughout the customer lifecycle to maximize top-rated program participation, donations, or reviews.

  • Carry out segmentation of the database and implement remarketing strategies.

  • Monitor and track the success of email campaigns

  • Continuously improve upon our email marketing processes, including campaign development, email design, segmentation, personalization, and more

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Marketing, Business or Analytics

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in managing email marketing campaigns

  • Proven track record of leading successful email campaigns; experience with both B2B and B2C marketing is a plus

  • Experience using ESPs from top to bottom, including building triggered email programs, managing lists, executing email sends, and more

  • You get things done: You’re a self-starter, organized, resourceful, and have the ability to manage projects from start to finish

  • You care about the details: You have an eye for design, a good instinct for what email content will resonate with consumers, and triple-check every email before it’s sent

  • Experience with SendGrid preferred

Senior Marketing Manager

The Mission of the Role

The mission of the Senior Marketing Manager is to ensure a best-in-class content discovery experience for volunteers, donors, and interested parties that will inspire people to work with local nonprofits that are making immense local and global impact. As the Senior Marketing Manager, you’ll be the voice of GreatNonprofits' (  Our ideal candidate is an experienced communications and writing professional with experience in journalism, social media and content marketing. This position reports to the VP of Marketing



  • Develop, write and test creative copy to spark generosity and raise awareness about nonprofit causes. 

  • Write crisp copy and create compelling visual content for our social media channels - twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as email newsletters, and website 

  • Monitoring and tracking success of content and channels against benchmarks

  • Stay current on SEO best practices and their application, and help develop unique content targeted at capturing new visitor interest, improving organic visibility, and driving donations and stories

  • Apply standards and styles consistently. Contribute to style guide and best practice documentation

  • Help source and manage other freelance, volunteer and intern resources that create content



  • Minimum of 2+ years experience in writing for email newsletters, blogs, websites and social media

VP of Business Development

The VP of Business Development is directly responsible for starting and growing new fundraising partnerships with foundations and individuals for GreatNonprofits. You will also be in charge of identifying nonprofit and government partners and customers for our market research initiative, Citizen Insights. This position reports directly to the Founder/CEO.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Business Development Management:

  • Spearhead business development initiatives that are consistent with the GreatNonprofits’ overall strategy

  • Drive all phases of business development, including research, market analysis, due diligence, and evaluation of partners

  • Proactively identify key growth areas and evaluate opportunities to build market share.

  • Develop and manage programs for different buyer audiences, products and services

  • Manage contract negotiations

  • Build excellent working relationships at all levels while coordinating integration planning of new businesses

Development Management:

  • Prospect and cultivate relationships with foundation staff and individual donors

  • Prepare and submit foundation grants and corporate requests

  • Report on development progress against targets


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in fundraising

Volunteer: Sponsorship Manager

GreatNonprofits’ Sponsorship Manager is responsible for identifying, cultivating,
soliciting and stewarding individual, corporate and foundation sponsor prospects to become sponsors for GreatNonprofits’ Top Rated Awards, webinars, and marketing campaigns. The Sponsorship Coordinator will assemble and submit sponsorship requests, establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with current and potential sponsor contacts, conduct prospect research, meet deadlines for event sponsorships.

This position requires someone who has excellent interpersonal skills, as well as research and writing skills, is self-motivated, reliable, organized, thorough and timely. This is a volunteer


Work with GreatNonprofits leadership to execute annual development plan/strategy to increase
Sponsorships Identify and solicit individual, corporate and foundation sponsor prospects.

  • Maintain contact and relationships with sponsor prospects

  • Renew current major sponsorships and encourage upgrading sponsorship levels when

  • Assemble sponsorships materials, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations

  • Ensure prompt acknowledgement of sponsorships received

  • Maintain calendar and meet deadlines for event sponsorships

  • Prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner

  • Ensure that sponsors receive full benefits of sponsorship, such as logo placement an
    promotion via GreatNonprofits’ networks

Volunteer: Writer/Blogger

GreatNonprofits is the "TripAdvisor" of the nonprofits world. We help donors and volunteers choose which nonprofits they want to support based on clients' reviews and ratings. Our site hosts reviews of groups of all different shapes and sizes and types from the smallest grassroots groups operating on the local level, to the large regional, national, and international organizations.  Our voice is helpful, inspiring, and, above all, positive.

We're seeking volunteers to write posts for our blog to increase engagement and bring traffic to our site. Ideally, these volunteers would each write about four posts per month.

There are three main types of posts we need written:

  • Best Nonprofits Roundup: Highlight the top-rated nonprofits of a certain issue or in a specific geographic area and do a short profile of each. E.g. "These Are The 10 Best Nonprofits In Seattle"

  • How-To Posts: Give practical advice and instructions to answer user's questions. E.g. "8 Ways You Can Help Fight Human Trafficking" or "How To Become An Animal Shelter Volunteer"

  • Listicles: Buzzfeed-style articles that are geared toward social-sharing. E.g. "10 Times Taylor Swift Was The Most Charitable Person Ever"

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with blogging or writing for the web

  • Bachelor's degree or pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing, writing, communications, literature, or a related field

  • Outstanding research skills (we will give you insights using our data and industry knowledge, but you may have to do some research on your own)

  • Passion for nonprofits and ability to inspire others to support good causes

  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy and grammar

  • Superior command of the English language

  • Able to write one post per week

  • WordPress ninja

Volunteer: Senior Online Marketing and Brand Manager

Volunteer: Social Media and Marketing Intern

The intern will report to the VP, Marketing and CEO directly to maintain the social media reach between GreatNonprofits and the public. Due to the size of the team the intern is vital to maintaining and improving the brand image of GreatNonprofits as well as the connection between GreatNonprofits and members of the public. You will work with an accomplished team of individuals with corporate and nonprofit backgrounds. You’ll have a huge impact on a highly visible organization, help nonprofits, and have a lot of fun.


  • Assist the team by conducting marketing strategy research

  • Create, develop and execute marketing campaigns to increase GreatNonprofits’ advertising efforts and reach

  • Expand and improve online advertisements through Google Adwords and monitoring through Google Analytics

  • Write descriptions for online ads as well as descriptions for landing pages

  • Follow Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and other forms of social media to understand demographic preferences and notice when the preference of our followers begins to change to adjust methods of reaching the public

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Able to work well under deadlines in a constantly changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently

Director of Marketing

As Director of Marketing, you'll spearhead the growth of GreatNonprofits, ( the leading website for donors and volunteers to find local nonprofits.


We help nonprofits - such as food banks, civil rights organizations, housing advocates, animal shelters -  reach more donors and volunteers.    More than 20 million people use the website to make donations or volunteer.


Our funders have included The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Craigslist Foundation and Fidelity Charitable.  GreatNonprofits has received media coverage in the Economist, Huffington Post, and Wall Street Journal. It is led by a seasoned nonprofit executive, Perla Ni, founder and former publisher of the Stanford Social Innovation Review.


In 2020, we saw tremendous growth, with traffic and donations growing by 30%. In 2021 we will launch GivingStories, the largest collection of videos about nonprofits.  


We seek an experienced, dynamic and committed Director of Marketing to create strategies and execute campaigns to raise awareness of our website and services.  Our ideal candidate will be an experienced marketing professional with a passion for customer acquisition retention.  You will use your understanding of web video, paid, organic, email and social media to help nonprofits connect with donors..
